The National Gallery

Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN – enter via Sainsbury Wing on the north side of Trafalgar Square. This is the easiest access point for taxis, drop-off, and step-free entry.


Getting Here

By Tube & Train

Charing Cross – the closest station (main line & Underground – Northern & Bakerloo) ~2 min walk.

Leicester Square – Northern & Piccadilly lines ~5 min walk.

Embankment – Northern, Bakerloo, District & Circle lines ~8–10 min walk.

For step-free access, consider stations such as Tottenham Court Road or Westminster and plan route with TFL Go or Citymapper.


By Bus

Buses stop directly at Trafalgar Square and nearby streets (e.g., St Martins Place, Trafalgar Square bus stops).

Popular routes include 3, 6, 9, 12, 13, 15, 23, 24, 29, 88, 139, 159, 176, 453.


By Taxi / Ride-Hail

Taxis can drop off right at the Sainsbury Wing entrance on Pall Mall/Whitcomb Street side for the most direct access.

Parking Central London parking is limited and often expensive: A designated Blue Badge parking space is available on Orange Street (must be booked in advance).

Additional accessible bays exist on St Martin’s Street (contact Westminster Parking Info).

Public car parks in Leicester Square and under Trafalgar Square are nearby but can fill quickly; use public transport where possible.


Visitor Tips

The Gallery is free to enter (special exhibitions may charge). Advanced booking of free timed tickets is recommended to avoid queues.

Sainsbury Wing has level, step-free access.

The area around Trafalgar Square is pedestrian-friendly and close to other iconic attractions, cafés and restaurants.
